ABOUT THE TOUR

Ken will bring the San Francisco of the 1970s and 1980s alive for you in all its joyful intensity.

Past tour participants have noted what an “incredible privilege it was to be guided around the Castro area by Ken. He has certainly led a big life and is happy to share personal stories that stem from decades of experience in activism. A passionate person who has contributed so much to the community, Ken's personal knowledge of the area is unparalleled. I feel very lucky to have met him and had this experience - my trip to San Francisco is certainly richer because of it.”

We’ll start at Harvey Milk Plaza and then stroll through The Castro. We’ll walk along the Rainbow Honor Walk where I’ll share stories about some of the heroes of the movement, like James Baldwin and Sylvester. We’ll stop at the hub for community organizing (before the internet, we had to organize in person!), Harvey Milk’s camera store, and two of the bars that were the site of historic and pivotal moments in the movement (and in my life). We’ll also stop at a few of The Castro’s major landmarks - the GLBT Historical Society, The Castro Theatre, and Jane Warner Plaza. By the end of the tour, you’ll know so much more about about the people, places, and events that have made The Castro what it is today.
